New Senior Service begins May 1
Semcac's Senior Services Department will take on a new service beginning May 1. The Reassurance Call Service will transition to Semcac from Contact, a non-profit organization that has served Steele and surrounding counties for 30 years. The Reassurance Call Service provides social, safety and medication reminder calls to about 60 isolated and elderly individuals in Steele, Dodge, Waseca and Rice counties. The service is made possible with 30 trained volunteers that make the daily calls to seniors.
The Contact Board of Directors decided to transfer this service to Semcac after evaluating their own resources and partner organizations' resources and concluding that this essential service may be more cost effective if managed by another organization. Contact's Board Chair Glenda Smith said, "We feel this transition will be in the best interest of the service, and of course, our greatest concern, our clients. We are looking forward to the excellent service Semcac is capable of continuing to offer current and potential clients."
The transition to Semcac will occur with uninterrupted services to clients. Semcac plans to continue the service from the City of Owatonna's SeniorPlace, in a newly combined office with Semcac's Senior & Caregiver Advocacy Program.
