A day with dad; Fathers spend time with children at event
LeRoy Head Start, LeRoy-Ostrander School, Preschool, ECFE and Community Education staff collaborated together to host the “Fun Night with Dad” event on March 30. This event promoted the importance for parents to read to their children and that it is one of the best ways to build literacy skills. Fathers brought their children for a ‘walking taco’ meal, to build a birdhouse, make smoothies, and go to the library for a story. Families took their birdhouses home, along with a book titled, “Just Me and My Dad.” Seventeen families attended.
The event was made possible by Semcac Head Start, which secured a grant from Fillmore County Family Services Collaborative. The grant objective was to promote the special bond between fathers and their children in building social-emotional skills.
Reading together is a simple way to build the bonds. The grant supported events at four different sites across Fillmore County, including LeRoy-Ostrander. Visit www.semcac.org for more information about Head Start.
