Semcac Introduces New Community Solar Program
New Community Solar Program Helps Income-Eligible Households Save on Energy Costs
Semcac is excited to share a new opportunity that can help income-eligible households lower their monthly electric bills through Minnesota’s Community Solar Garden Program.
Community Solar allows renters and homeowners who receive electricity through Xcel Energy to benefit from solar energy without installing solar panels on their homes. Instead, participants subscribe to a shared solar garden located elsewhere in Minnesota and receive credits on their Xcel Energy bill based on the energy produced.
How It Works
Because Semcac has already verified income eligibility for many households through our programs, qualifying participants may be able to enroll in a Community Solar subscription that provides guaranteed savings on their electric costs. The State of Minnesota requires that subscription costs never exceed the value of the solar bill credits received, ensuring participants save money.
Participants who choose Utility-Combined Billing will see credits automatically applied to their Xcel Energy bill.
Program Benefits
- Open to both renters and homeowners
- No rooftop solar panels required
- No installation or upfront costs
- Automatic bill credits through Xcel Energy
- Average savings of approximately $250 per year
- Limited-time $100 gift card incentive after Xcel verification
Who Can Participate?
This opportunity is available to income-qualifying households that receive electric service from Xcel Energy. Participation does not require any changes to your property, and the solar gardens are maintained off-site.
