Semcac Head Start is seeking 2 full-time Americorps LEAP members for the classroom locations in Kasson, Austin, Winona or Owatonna. National Service can transform your life – or at least get you better prepared for college or career.  If you love children, and understand how important social - emotional skills are for a life of learning, achieving and succeeding, then our program is for you! We need social-emotional skill builders to serve across southern Minnesota. Semcac has the opportunity to receive money from Merchants Bank’s Swipe Out Hunger campaign, which will run August 1-8. Merchants Bank will donate a nickel to Swipe Out Hunger every time a Merchants Bank credit card or debit card is used between those dates, up to a total of $10,000. Supporters of the Semcac Food Shelf can vote once a day at the Merchants Bank Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/MerchantsBank. At the end of the giveaway, the food shelf with the most votes will receive the top donation prize of $2,500, second place will receive $1,500 and third place will receive $1,000. [...]

Caledonia, Kasson, Preston & Rushford, Minn – All four of the Semcac food shelf locations are participating in the 2017 Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless Summer Challenge, a donation drive sponsored by Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless and Hunger Solutions, that takes place in July. As a member of Hunger Solutions Minnesota, Semcac is eligible to receive a percentage of grant funds designated for this challenge. Annual MN FoodShare, March Campaign Some people face food insecurity every day, while others struggle after an unexpected expense or decrease in income.  Hunger can lead to poor health or illness in addition to poor performance at school or work.  During 2016, Semcac food shelves in Rushford, Preston, Caledonia, and Kasson had 7,936 visits from 1,343 households and distributed 377,841 pounds of food. Clients are also provided with information and referrals to other community services.   Thank you to the Masons, Lodge #20 for all their help! And, thank you to Schmitz busing for donating the use of the bus and driver! There are a variety of community groups arranging to help with the event, as well, including the Caledonia Lions Club, Caledonia Rotary, etc. Thrivent Financial encourages members to use an action grant to buy food, as well.  

Semcac Clinic has found a new Medical Director. Thank you to Dr. Retzinger, for his years of service to Semcac Clinic, who is now retired.
