(ABC 6 News) — Good news for those living in St. Charles, Dover, Eyota and Byron, transportation is expanding. Thanks to a MnDOT grant and community partnerships, there is a new bussing option for local communities.

Rolling Hills Transit Service is expanding a variety of routes. MnDOT paid for a large portion of the service and individual cities pay upfront costs and collect fees to ride. A trip costs $1.50 in town or $3.00 for a trip to Rochester.

“We need the fees to make sure the cities aren’t continually subsidizing it. We can start it now and then hopefully the fees will carry it on to the future, it it’s popular and we think it will be a really good option for our citizens,” said Eyota Mayor Tyrel Clark. “You don’t have to get the car out of the garage. You want to go to St. Charles to go get something to eat, just call up the bus and they’ll take your whole family.”

Buses run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays. Riders can purchase punch cards to ride the bus or pay with cash.
