Semcac Breaks Ground on New Austin Head Start & Outreach Center

Published On: October 12th, 2026|Categories: News, Updates|

We are excited to share that Semcac officially broke ground on our new Austin Head Start & Outreach Center on Sept 24, marking a major milestone for children, families, seniors, and the broader Mower County community. The project was recently featured in Semcac breaks ground on new Austin facility by ABC 6 News.

The new facility will bring together Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms, outreach services, office space, and a commercial kitchen to support Senior Nutrition programs in one centralized location. The building will provide modern, accessible space designed to strengthen services, improve coordination among programs, and increase access to resources for the people we serve.

This groundbreaking represents the culmination of years of planning, fundraising, collaboration, and perseverance. Along the way, the project overcame significant challenges, including environmental remediation, construction delays, and funding gaps. Thanks to the support of federal, state, local, foundation, and community partners, construction is now underway.

When completed, the new center will expand early childhood education opportunities, increase capacity for toddler services, enhance support for families, and strengthen local meal production for older adults throughout Mower County.

We are grateful to ABC 6 News for highlighting this important project and helping share the impact it will have on our community. Most importantly, we thank our funders, partners, staff, board members, and supporters whose commitment has helped turn this vision into reality.
