When Semcac relocated some of its services from a building adjacent to the ones destroyed by the September fire, the move was expected to be temporary.
But the relocation worked so well, it’ll be permanent. Semcac now has a one-stop shop for all of its services in the Merchants Plaza building, which formerly just held the community action agency’s family planning programs. The renamed Semcac Center now houses both the family planning clinic and Semcac’s outreach and emergency services.
Semcac plans to host an open house at the new center Jan. 30 for clients and the community.
Semcac executive director Wayne Stenberg said the move was a win-win for the organization, allowing it to consolidate services and cut expenses for an organization that is used to tight state and federal funding.
“It makes the money go farther,” Stenberg said. “It gives us the opportunity to serve clients more. We have to be more efficient and effective.”
