Semcac partners with Fillmore County to provide Poverty Simulation
Walking in Their Shoes: Poverty Simulation Highlights the Challenges of Living with Limited Resources
What does it really mean to make ends meet when resources are limited and every decision matters? A recent poverty simulation in Mable, Minnesota, gave participants an opportunity to experience firsthand some of the difficult choices and challenges individuals and families facing poverty navigate every day.
As highlighted in a recent KIMT News 3 story, the simulation challenged participants to consider what happens when responsibilities outweigh available resources, time is limited, and options are few.
Experiences like these help build understanding, empathy, and awareness of the many barriers that can make it difficult for individuals and families to achieve stability. Poverty is about more than a paycheck. It can impact access to housing, transportation, food, childcare, employment, healthcare, and other basic needs.
At Semcac, we believe understanding these challenges is an important step toward building stronger communities. By increasing awareness and encouraging meaningful conversations, we can work together to break down barriers, connect people with resources, and create opportunities for greater self-sufficiency. Special thanks to Fillmore County for partnering with us to bring awareness in the Fillmore and Houston Counties.
