Spring Grove council supports Semcac dining

On Feb. 16, the Spring Grove City Council voted to join with the city’s Commercial Club and Lions to support Semcac’s senior dining.

Taking up a request from that agency, which was tabled in January, city officials approved a $950 donation to Semcac to maintain congregate dining at its Spring Grove site, as well as its Meals-on-Wheels program, which goes throughout the community.

The remaining portion of Semcac’s funding request was split evenly between the Lions and Commercial Club with each providing $250.

On Jan. 19, Semcac staffer Debbie Betthauser told the council that she was willing to commit to maintaining both programs for the remainder of 2016, if the community could raise $1450 to pay Spring Grove’s share of expenses.

Those monies were needed to offset the cost of renting kitchen facilities in Caledonia, she stated.
