On Feb. 16, the Spring Grove City Council voted to join with the city’s Commercial Club and Lions to support Semcac’s senior dining.

Taking up a request from that agency, which was tabled in January, city officials approved a $950 donation to Semcac to maintain congregate dining at its Spring Grove site, as well as its Meals-on-Wheels program, which goes throughout the community.

The remaining portion of Semcac’s funding request was split evenly between the Lions and Commercial Club with each providing $250.

On Jan. 19, Semcac staffer Debbie Betthauser told the council that she was willing to commit to maintaining both programs for the remainder of 2016, if the community could raise $1450 to pay Spring Grove’s share of expenses.

Those monies were needed to offset the cost of renting kitchen facilities in Caledonia, she stated.
