History

Community Action Agencies were created to strengthen communities by supporting individuals and families in reaching self-sufficiency. These organizations have long served as a trusted partner to people who are working hard to build better lives for themselves and their families.

Today, Community Action continues to make a difference across nearly every county in the United States. In Minnesota, Semcac is proud to be part of the network of 24 nonprofit Community Action Agencies rooted in the belief that lasting change begins at the community level and grows through respect, opportunity, and local connection.

For generations, we have helped hard-working individuals and families improve their own lives through services that meet local needs and open doors to greater stability and success. While our programs have evolved over time, our mission remains clear: to walk alongside our neighbors, offering the support, tools, and encouragement they need to thrive.

In an ever-changing world, Semcac continues to serve its original purpose—helping aspirational working families move forward and build a stronger future.
