KASSON, Minn.- A non-profit organization is breaking ground on a new transit building in Kasson. The Southeast Minnesota Community Action Agency, or SEMCAC, tells KIMT they have seen an uptick in the growing need for affordable transportation in the region. The organization offers rides to seniors, medicaid recipients and kids. The new construction will allow everything to be under one roof. Semcac invites the press and community to attend the groundbreaking of their new Transportation building, which will be constructed in Kasson, located behind Kasson City Hall. The event will take place on July 30th, 2018 at 401 Commerce Drive SE in Kasson at 2:00pm. Semcac’s Transportation Department has grown significantly in the past four years. Semcac offers affordable public bussing transportation, otherwise known as Rolling Hills Transit, as well as rides for seniors and qualified Medicaid recipients via the Volunteer Driver Program. Food Shelves Participate in Open Your Heart to the Hungry & Homeless

All four of the Semcac food shelf locations are participating in the 2018 Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless Summer Challenge, a donation drive sponsored by Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless and Hunger Solutions, that takes place in July. As a member of Hunger Solutions Minnesota, Semcac is eligible to receive a percentage of grant funds designated for this challenge.   Pride in Food Service Week – February 5-9, 2018 Semcac's Senior Nutrition Program  provides meals for congregate diners and to Meals on Wheels recipients that live independently in their own homes or apartments.  To serve some of these clients, we operate eight kitchens.  These kitchens produce approximately 1,000 noon meals per day.  The meals are prepared from scratch with menus and recipes consistent throughout the service area.   In these kitchens, there are 2 to 3 cooking staff.  Throughout the year, the Head Cooks come together to receive training.
